I can’t even begin to describe what was going through my mind watching 120+ cyclists set out to ride this course. Thank you all so much for coming out and taking part in what will surely become an annual event.
Below are the final results from the 2012 Cedar Cross. I’ll allow one week from today, 5/12/2012, for anyone to contest their posted finish times. After that, these times are set in stone.
Please note, the time listed is the time of day you finished, NOT the amount of elapsed time. For example, when Peat Henry finished at 16:59, that would mean he crossed the finish line at 4:59pm. I apologize for not knowing the exact start-time, but I’m sure someone will fill me in on that one.
If anyone is curious, the Kuat rack was awarded to Travis Hammons. I had my lovely girlfriend amass a list of license plate numbers from those vehicles that had the crappiest looking bike racks. The first 3 winners I pulled from the hat were already gone, so Travis was lucky #4. Travis is seen in the bottom-left corner of the photo below, drinking beer at the Hoosier Daddies volunteer station.
Also, I’ve gotten emails from several of you concerning lost shoes, helmets and smoke bombs. I did go back and find these shoes and helmet:
Unfortunately, these were the only shoes I found, so let me know if they’re yours.
A word about our sponsors: Backcountry Research and Foosh. If you haven’t already done it, please send a quick email to these folks and thank them for the massive amount of schwag they donated to this race. While you’re at it, buy some of their stuff!!!

Not that it matters much and my ass has the sores to prove it but I am down as a DNF, I finished with Roddy Dowell and Dennis Rathke…
Bob Jenkins said:
My apologies, Todd. I actually have you down as finishing at 18:29. That was an oversight on my part, thanks for bringing it to my attention.
roddy dowell said:
Hey Bob, you had #9 Dennis Baumstock as DNF but he finished right behind me with Todd Johanson.
Bob Jenkins said:
Copy that. Correction made
Keaton Haire said:
Hey, I don’t care, but for the sake of no one thinking I’m doper than I am. I’m #97 and my name is Keaton Haire. I finished with randazzle and kyle #29 and #46. I don’t care if you don’t want to put the effort into changing it, but I figured I’d give you a heads up. thanks again for an awesome day of riding. you put on a damn fine race.
Bob Jenkins said:
The mistake was totally mine and you have been restored to your rightful level of dopeness. Thanks for your honesty!

Hi Bob,
Figured I better let you know that Josh Johnson was part of the 4-way tie for first, since he pulled our group most of the way.
Cheers, and thanks again for an awesome event!

see, this is what happens when your time keeper is drunker than a skunk.
here is what a proper results sheet looks like:
Ross Lents said:
Not that is has to be changed but rider #38 is listed as Ross C. Should be Ross Lents. You probably couldn’t read my chicken scratch, but I’d like everyone to accurately see my craptastic results and belittle me appropriately. Thanks for the carnage!
Stoney said:
Looking at some of the racer’s Garmin files, the race started at 9:10am.
Corey said:
Bob, Matt Stacey and I Crossed side by side and there is a Josh Behounek between us on the results but there was no one around us so I don’t know if he was ahead of us or behind us. Also Anthony Dust was the guy that passed us in the river bottoms so he was ahead of us.
Bob Jenkins said:
Good to know, I’ll see to it that Josh’s prize-money is revoked.
Josh said:
Josh here. Bob you kicked my ass and I was an official DNF. I will send my prize money back and look forward to redeeming myself next year! Cheers
Bob Jenkins said:
See that you do, and I hope you come back and try again next year!

I am down as a DNF and I did DNF…. Broke a rear wheel.

Bob, I finished at around 8:45 right after the Wendy Davis group. #33 Randy Anderson

Pete Goode said:
Bob, next year you definitely need chip timing. That would be totally pro. Also, LiveStream the coverage via the Team Red Wheel helicopter (hey, there’s an airport right by the start/finish!) plus motorcycle (off road) camera coverage.
Just some helpful ideas.
Bob Jenkins said:
Good idea, we just need to get Chadwick a pilot’s license.
Stoney said:
Speaking of camera coverage, did you ever figure out who the guy filming from the top of the Range Rover was and if he posted pics or video anywhere. He was all over the course. It kind of gave that race that Dirty Kanza feel where they have the guys in the motorcycles and jeeps filming and taking pictures.
Bob Jenkins said:
I’m pretty sure those dudes were with Eric Burke, the guy who runs the bike shop in Fulton. I’m really looking forward to seeing what they’ve put together. You’ll know about it as soon as I do.
Speaking of Eric, he rode the first 20 of the course on his fixie until he slashed a tire, then rode all the way to the drop-station on a singlespeed cruiser-bike out of the back of someone’s truck.
By the time he got to the drop-station, his SAG had brought him a new tire, so he finished the course on his fixie. That’s a badass.
Stoney said:
That is pretty badass, but did he have the same gearing on the cruiser bike as the fixie did? Otherwise, he needs to be removed from the SS division and placed in the open division since he had multiple gears 😉
Oh wait, there wasn’t a separate single-speed division but that’s a good idea for next year!
Bob Jenkins said:
I don’t know what his gearing was, but the crank-arms on that cruiser were so short, he had to be miserable.
I was surprised at how many singlespeeds were there, but the real eye-opener for me was how many people were riding with platform pedals.

Hey Bob, this is Art Clervi #87 and I am glad to hear I am resting in peace. I needed some rest after that race! Actually, I came in just a few seconds after Dan Stookey, in the 2133 range. Thanks to you and all your volunteers for putting on a great event.

Thank goodness, this is going to save me a lot of money. We were having a scholarship started in your name:)
